ADHOMUKHA-SHVÂNÂSANA

This pose is part of the group of standing postures. It comes between the standing postures and the inverted and lying down poses. So it may be used as a link or transition between them.

This posture is very often used to prepare certain inverted postures, due to the position of the torso and its action on the back and upper limbs.

VINIYOGA OR HOW TO HEAL THE MIND: KRIYÂ-YOGA (SECOND PART)

In the second part of the teaching of kriyâ-yoga, Patanjali gives us some essential keys. He compares the general path of the “yoga of action” to medical science: the disease, its cause, the possible cure and the therapy. The study of a case shows us how this application can help us to take care of someone whose mind is disturbed.

PRÂNÂYÂMA: Progression in prânâyâma exercises

We saw (Viniyoga Europe 11) the relation between rhythms and breathing techniques. That article showed the relevance of the choice of one direction in the practice of prânâyâma and, from there, the choice of an adequate rhythm and technique, in order to meet the specific needs of a practitioner. This article suggests some examples of practical applications, with gradual progression, or vinyâsa krama, in the exercises of prânâyâma. This will make them easier to master.

YOGA-SÛTRA I.31 and 32

Mental instability, dispersion and the other obstacles to the realization of Yoga manifest through the four symptoms that Patanjali enumerates here. Then the author of Yoga-Sûtra starts to expose the famous “eka-tattva” or alternative methods to devotion.
